Recommended Resources for your

Online Business

Hey, I'm Stephanie and I have a confession...

I’m kind of obsessed with finding the best tools and resources for online business. I love trying new software, and love researching the latest trends in online business.

Over the past few years I have learned so much about what it takes to run a successful online business (and have made over $150K in sales, so something must be working!). wink

I often get asked for recomendations on software from clients, readers, and members of my community, so I’ve put this page together to compile all of my best suggestions.

Some of these links are affiliate links (thanks for the support!), but everything listed I have personally tried, and currently use for my online business.

I really hope these suggestions will help you on your path to creating your wildly awesome biz.

The Can’t Live Withouts
These tools and software are what I consider essential to running my business. I couldn’t do what I do without them.

Plans start at $29/month

Convertkit is what I use for email marketing. It stores my contacts, keeps track of who has bought what, and allows me to contact my list. I’ve changed email software 5 times over the past two years (and used 3 others programs extensively while working with clients), and Converkit is my favorite.

I like converkit because it best motivates me to grow my email list. They have a beautifully built chart when your first log in that gives a great at a glance view of how you are doing. This is just one example of how they’ve paid attention to the simple details that matter most.

I also love it because it has a lot of the same powerful tools as infusionsoft that I used to pay $300/month for, but at a fraction of the price.

All around, it’s the most user-friendly, and most refined in the places that matter most.

Hosting plans start at $3.95/month

Hosting your own website can feel intimidating. At least it did for me. I was pretty familiar with wordpress when I started this whole online biz thing, but having to figure out hosting was brand new to me.

I am really glad I chose bluehost. I get all my domains and hosting from bluehost, and I have had the best customer experience with them. I’ve had several occasions where I needed to call for help with something technical, and they have always gone above and beyond to help me through it.

Their process to get started is even simpler than when I got going (recently my mom got her new blog setup super easily with them- I was impressed!).

DIVI by Elegant Themes

Unlock access for $89/year

Once you’ve got your hosting setup, and wordpress installed, you’re going to need a theme. My top pick is DIVI. This entire site is built with this theme, and I’m rather fond of what it can do.

DIVI is great because it has a visual builder (You can see how your site looks as you go), and it is very flexible in terms of how you can lay out your site.

DIVI is the only theme I’ve worked with that has the power to grow with you as your business evolves. You can always change your website to look exactly like you want it (and it’s a very popular theme with designers, so as you scale your business, you won’t ever have to re-start).

Plans start at $129/month

Kajabi is the kind of software that gives me the warm fuzzies inside. It is the best software on the market to host your online courses. There are so many reasons I love it, but I’m going to try to play it semi-cool at the risk of sounding like a total fangirl (which I am, lol).

I like Kajabi because it makes my course look good and provides the most user friendly experience for my students. I’ve tried both other major hosting platforms and they just don’t give your course the same “curb appeal.” I like that right out of the gate, kajabi makes my course look professional. In fact it makes them look so good that it almost wouldn’t matter if they we’re crappy (thank goodness they are awesome!).

I’m slightly obsessive about the look of my landing pages, so I build all mine from scratch right here on my wordpress site using DIVI, but if you are new to building high converting pages, Kajabi has an incredible builder with awesome templates (I’ve used them with clients before).

Plans start at $19/month

Do you ever have trouble explaining to people why you love your mac so much (that is if you’re one of the cool mac kids!)? Well sometimes that’s how I feel about Samcart. I know I love it. I know it’s superior. I know I need it in my life. But it’s hard to nail down the exact reasons why.

Ok let me back it up a minute. Samcart is a tool you can use to sell your stuff online. It connects with your payment processors (paypal & stripe), and integrates them with beautiful checkout forms. I particularly like their popup form that I can embed right on my wordpress landing pages. The shopper doesn’t have the leave the sales page to buy!

I like using Samcart because all my sales come in through one place, and it’s easy to see at a glance how I am doing for the month.

I also like that it’s easy to offer upsells. Admittedly, I am not super good at doing this, but when I have, it’s significantly boosted my bottom line for my launches.

Ok, so it turns out, I am pretty good at describing why I love Samcart so much. Also, putting this page together is making wonder why I didn’t make my logo blue. Seems all the best online businesses are these days! wink

My Favorite Podcasts
There is nothing like discovering a binge-worthy podcast loaded with actionable information. Here are my top discoveries…

Heart, Soul & Hustle

by Zach Spuckler

I first learned about Zach on periscope (back when that was a thing). I remember watching him livestream as he casually walked around his neighborhood, occasionally waving to his neighbors. I was brand new to the online business space and remember watching in awe of how natural he was on camera, and how much charisma he had. Watching him livestream made you want to be his friend.

Then I discovered his podcast and was immediately hooked because of the incredible value he consistently shared. Every episode leaves you with a tangible action you can take to actually move your business forward. It’s definitely a must listen to podcast.

Here are a few of my favorite episodes:

Smart Passive Income

by Pat Flynn

I started listening to Pat’s podcast before I even started my online business. His podcast was my very first introduction to this whole crazy cool world.

Fun fact: I was a newborn photographer at the time, and my first online business idea was to start a Canadian association for professional newborn photographers. I even bought my domain, designed a logo, and started working on the website. Turns out, a whole other path was waiting for me.

Back to the podcast. Pat’s show is an indisputable leader in the online business space. He interviews the biggest names in the industry, but is always so down to earth and generous with his knowledge.

Here are a few of my favorite episodes:

Episode 46: Building a Lucrative Business with No Ideas, No Expertise, and No Money with Dane Maxwell
